Burning Candles Successfully with Weddingstar

April 20, 2009 at 5:55 pm (Ideas and Articles) (, , )

Candlelight is a great mood enhancer. It is probably one of the easiest ways to add instant atmosphere to any room. Available in a huge array of sizes, shapes and wax “types” leads to a few questions on how to best care for your candles. Here are a few tips and tricks that may add to your experience and extend the life of your candles:
1. Burn your pillar candle one hour for every inch of its diameter. This will aid in a more even burn because the candles wax has more time to burn to the outter rim of the candle.
2. Before you light your candle, trim the wick to one-quarter inch. Repeat every time you light the candle. This will ensure a clean, smoke-free burn. Invest in superior quality candles they are virtually smokeless.
3. Candles need oxygen. If you burn a candle in a confined area it may smoke. Consider the size of the room and the location of the candles. Avoid drafty locations.
4. To guard your candles against fading, avoid placing them in direct sunlight.
5. Store your candles in a dry, cool, dark place. 6. Wax candle adapters are the easiest way to hold a taper candle in place and prevent it from tipping over. The soft wax is pliable and sticks to both holder and candle.
Remember:

1. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

2. Keep candles out of the reach of children.

3. Always place your candles on sturdy, non-flammable holders, in sizes appropriate for the candles.

4. Never burn a candle completely. Dispose of it when it burns to within one inch of the base.

5. Remember to remove the labels on your candles.

Weddingstar – Favors that Favor the Couple

April 14, 2009 at 4:51 pm (Wedding Favors) (, , )

Often the small gifts that couples give to their guests are items that tie in with the overall theme of their wedding, either by color or by the item itself.  But a new way of looking at favors means that some couples are choosing favors that have nothing to do with the wedding itself, and everything to do with them as a couple.

Whether it be a favorite brand of chocolate or other treat that they shared on their first date together, or on some other occasion such as a weekly date, a favorite sporting event, or even a traditional holiday treat.  Choosing such a remembrance makes the favor a reflection of the couple and gives guests a special insight into their lives.

Favors such as these don’t have to be limited to just edible favors.  A couple who share a deep love for the Beatles may want to give their guests a small yellow submarine.

A couple who fell in love sipping margaritas during their spring break meeting, and at every beach vacation they have frequented since, may want to give each of their guests either a small bottle of tequila and a recipe to make their own, or a cocktail mix favor that represents this or another memorable specialty drink.

Favors today are no longer a gift given to guests just for the sake of it.  They are almost always somehow tied into the wedding, and what better way to tie into the wedding than to have the favor tie directly to the bride and groom as a couple, particularly if they share a hobby of collecting.

If they are stamp collectors, they can give guests personalized stamps of the two of them in a small booklet, if they are coin collectors, they might want to give their guests a chocolate treat of candy coins.  If they share a passion for coke-a-cola paraphernalia they can give their guests coke-themed items, or small old-fashioned bottles of the tasty drink.

Nearly anything that can be collected can be turned one way or another into a favor for your wedding guests.

If you are looking for one-of-a-kind favors that reflect your personalities and not your wedding theme, look to your shared past and what about it that makes it special, or look to your present and the joy you take in collecting certain items.  Not only do they make fun favors they also make favors that guests will remember fondly as a piece of you they were able to take home.
